access to healthcare
A formal diagnosis is the gateway to accessible housing, reasonable adjustments in the workplace, access to SEN / EHCP in education and even adjustments within the justice system. Yet it can take between 3-7 years to get a diagnosis on the NHS, and the cost of private diangosis is prohibitive. A gateway mechanism cannot and must not be so exclusive as to lock out the people that rely on it from access to essential human rights. NeuroRebellion will bring this fight right to Westminster's doorstep as well individual organisations who fail to comply with their statutory obligations.
access to education
Ari. 2, Part II of the Human Rights Act states that no person shall be denied the right to education, yet every year countless kids with both diagnosed and undiagnosed neurodivergent conditions are excluded from education. Provision of reasonable adjustments in education (SEN / EHCP) is a statutory obligation, yet so many children and parents are failed by education providers. Lack of health & social care is one key factor. No diagnosis, no support is the recurrent and erroneous shield and sword. Think consequences. NeuroRebellion seeks to work with parents & education providers to ensure the child gets the best possible support.
Access to Justice
Approximately 80% of young offenders in the justice system have, or are diagnosed with, neurodivergent conditions. Their brush with the criminal justice system could have been prevented by early intervention in the Health & Social Care systm and in the Education System. Then there's the Civil Justice system which just does not adjust its procedures to vulnerable & disabled claimants, even though there is clear guidance for it to do so. Neurodivergent people are constantly on the backfoot in neurotypical society, and NeuroRebellion seeks to level the playing field.
Access to housing
Having a roof over our heads is essential for us to feel safe - and feeling safe is so very important to us as neurodivergent people. Yet so many of us experience insecure living conditions. Our hypersensitivities can be trigger points in our communal life, and land lords and fellow tenants don't always understand that. Thankfully, the Equality Act provides protective measures for vulnerable tenants / residents. NeuroRebellion has successfully protected neurodivergent tenants against the threat of eviction, and will continue to do so.
Access to work
Being able to provide for ourselves and our loved ones is a basic human need. Employers have to make reasonable adjustments for workers who experience long-term health conditions or disabilities (as defined by law), even if they cannot visually detect those conditions or disabilities. Sometimes communication issues arise, and that's where we can be of great assistance. We understand both the legal requirements and interests of being and employer, and the experience of being neurodivergent and feeling threatened or accussed of something we didn't do.
Our history
NeuroRebellion is born out of righteous indignation, strengthened by cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange, and powered by an iron, unified will to forge change. This Rebellion will bring lasting change for Neurodistinguished people, and all those who suffer the wrath of a society that abhors authentic selfhood.
